Approve and authorize the Health Services Director to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #23-384-7 with
Language Line Services, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $400,000, for the provision of over the phone
interpreting services and translation services for the Health Services Department, for the period from January 1, 2013
through December 31, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This contract is funded 100% by the Department’s Enterprise Fund I. No increase in rates.
BACKGROUND:
This Contract allows County to meet Title VI language access regulations and Limited English Proficient (LEP)
patient/client needs for the County.
On January 11, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #23-384-6 with Language Line Services, Inc., for
the provision of mandated over-the-phone interpretation and translation services for the Health Services Department
including, but not limited to recruiting, screening, training and supervising qualified interpreters to translate over 100
languages,

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2012.
Approval of Contract #23-384-7 will allow the Contactor to continue to provide services through December 31, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the Health Services Department will not be able to provide mandated Title VI
language access regulations and Limited English Proficient (LEP) requirements for patients.
