HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11062012 - C.42RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to accept on behalf of the County, Grant Award #28-640-1 from Metropolitan Transportation Commission, in an amount not to exceed $35,000, for the County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Project for the period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: Acceptance of these Awards will result in a total of $35,000 from Metropolitan Transportation Commission. No County funds are required. BACKGROUND: The County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Project goal is to provide safe walking and biking education by providing classroom education; assemblies, information tables, and school events; bicycle helmet distribution; educational materials; and facilitated bicycling and walking events. These funds will allow the County to provide 8 bicycle and pedestrian safety presentations to reach at least 150 third and fourth-grade students; 4 bicycle and pedestrian safety assemblies to reach at least 250 middle school students; 6 information tables to reach at least 300 middle school students; 5 campus events to reach at least 200 middle school students; 2-4 safe bicycling APPROVE OTHER RECOMMENDATION OF CNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE Action of Board On: 11/06/2012 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER Clerks Notes: VOTE OF SUPERVISORS AYE:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Candace Andersen, District II Supervisor Mary N. Acceptance of the Grant Award #28-640-1 will allow the County to provide bicycle and pedestrian education services through June 30, 2013. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this grant award is not accepted, the additional bicycle and pedestrian safety projects would be delayed or not carried out. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This program supports the following Board of Supervisors’ community outcomes: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing”; and “Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families”. Expected program outcomes include fewer walking and biking accidents and injuries.
