("Vila") for the Remodeling of 30 and 40 Muir Road, Martinez, for the Department of Conservation and Development. 2. AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute the Change Order, which provides for additional work and increases the contract price by $788,493, for a total contract amount of $10,651,052. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is provided by a DCD fund comprised of Land Development fees collected for facility improvements and operations. Bueren, Public Works Date:October 23, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:APPROVE Change Order No. 12 with Vila Construction Company, Inc. for the Remodeling of 30 and 40 Muir Road, Martinez BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) of Conservation and Development ("DCD"). During construction, DCD determined that it required approximately 5,000 square feet of additional office space. The adjacent County-owned building at 40 Muir Road is currently vacant, and therefore can accommodate DCD's additional space needs. This Change Order adds interior remodeling of approximately 5,000 square feet of the ground floor of 40 Muir Road to the existing Vila design-build contract. The Change Order pricing for the additional 5,000 square feet ($157.70 per square foot) is less than the original price ($199.60 per square foot), which was for eight times the area (i.e., 40,000 square feet). With this Change Order and the eleven previously-issued change orders ($919,682), the revised contract amount is $10,651,052. Public Contract Code Section 20137 authorizes the Board to approve an individual change order up to 10% of the original contract price. This Change Order, which is less than 10% of the original contract price, complies with Section 20137. The Public Works Director recommends that the Board approve the Change Order. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If Change Order No. 12 is not approved, the project work would not proceed and would be delayed, with impacts to DCD's space needs. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
