APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $1,500
from LEGO Children’s Fund to provide books, books on CD, and a CD player for the period of January 1, 2013
through December 31, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The LEGO Group is a company committed to helping children develop their creativity and learning skills through
constructive play. The LEGO Children's Fund extends this commitment to local and national organizations that
support innovative projects and programming to cultivate and celebrate a child's exploration of personal creativity
and creative problem-solving in all forms. With this grant the Concord Library will expand the collection of books
and books on CD. The CD’s will be used in the new LEGO & Listen children’s storytime program starting in January
2013. LEGO & Listen develops creativity while encouraging an interest in stories and reading.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the grant is not approved then the materials will not be purchased and the LEGO & Listen storytime program will
not occur.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The program supports the outcome of Children Ready for and Succeeding in School. The funded program will allow
children to use their creativity and imagination while listening to a book on CD, encouraging an interest in stories and
reading.
