SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement 429-265-12 with the State Department of Health
Services (State 486-89262) for the Maternal and Child Health. Coordination
Project
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Standard
Agreement #29-265-12 (State #86-89262) with the State Department of Health
Services in the amount of $92,500. for the period July 1, .1986 - June 30, 1987 . for
the Maternal and Child Health Coordination Project which coordinates medical, pre-
natal and mental health services to women and children at County facilities.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this agreement by the State will result in $92,500 of State funding for
the Maternal and Child Health Coordination Project. Sources of funding are as
follows:

Total County Funding 21,544
TOTAL PROGRAM $114,044.
This represents no change from the FY 85-86 State funding amount of $92,500.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On April 15, 1986, the Board authorized submission of a funding application to the
State Department of Health Services for continuation of the Maternal and Child
Health Coordination Project during FY 1986-87. The project coordinates services to
women and children, including medical, mental health and prenatal services.
Project goals are to (1) make comprehensive prenatal care available to all pregnant
MediCal women; (2) provide accurate, timely prenatal data for planning and.resource
allocation purpose; (3) insure that women living in high risk, poor pregnancy. out-
come areas are aware of need . for early and regular prenatal care; (4) promote and
improve mothers' and children's health regarding SIDS deaths; and (5) reduce
childhood injuries in Contra Costa County.
This contract has been approved as to legal form by County Counsel's Office.
The Board Chairman should sign eight copies of the contract, seven of which should
then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to State
Department of Health Services.
