Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, as follows:
A. Grant Award (County #29-393-17), from the California Department of Public Health, Tuberculosis Control
Branch , to pay the County, an amount not to exceed $254,373, for the period from July 1, 2012 through June 30,
2013, for the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program, and
B. Authorize the Purchasing Agent to issue payments(s) in the amount not to exceed $14,884, from the payable
amount of $254,373, to be used for food, shelter, incentives and enablers (FSIE). The FSIE allotment will be used for
taxi vouchers and rent subsidies.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of this Award will result in a total of $254,373 from the State of California, Tuberculosis Control Branch
for fiscal year 2012-2013. No County match required

BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County, Public Health Department maintains a TB Control Program, which serves all reported TB
patients and their contacts in Contra Costa County. Outreach services are provided to reach the “Hard-to Reach”
people with TB and those at high risk. The TB control staff work within the Communicable Disease Section in
collaboration with the HIV/AIDS Program, Substance Abuse Programs, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and
Health Centers, and providers throughout the County.
Acceptance of this Award #29-393-17 will allow the Department to: (1) continue to expand prevention and control
activities, and (2) improve completion of appropriate therapy which is essential to decrease TB transmission, prevent
the development of drug resistance, and cure TB patients, through June 30, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this grant is not approved, the County will not receive funds to continue identifying and treating Contra Costa
County residents who have active TB and ensure that they complete appropriate therapy.
