BACKGROUND: In late 2012, the Fleet Service Center Attendant was promoted to Fleet Equipment Specialist, and the Fleet Service Center Attendant position has remained vacant. Since this time, we have been evaluating the personnel needs of Fleet and the Service Center shop. We have evaluated the current workload in the Division and believe that it would be most efficient to utilize APPROVE OTHER RECOMMENDATION OF CNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE Action of Board On: 10/16/2012 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER Clerks Notes: VOTE OF SUPERVISORS AYE:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Candace Andersen, District II Supervisor Mary N. ATTESTED: October 16, 2012 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Carrie Del Bonta, Deputy cc: Roxana Mendoza, Eva Barrios, Stacy Ruthrauff C. 48 To:Board of Supervisors From:Ted Cwiek, Human Resources Date:October 16, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:Cancel Fleet Service Center Attendant; Add One Equipment Service Writer BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) a second Equipment Service Writer as opposed to hiring a Fleet Service Center Attendant. The Attendant classification is an entry level classification that limits the level of workload that can be assigned to this position. The current needs of the Division require an additional employee that can perform all of the Attendant responsibilities in addition to higher level assignments that would include assisting in the preparation of the monthly schedule for preventative maintenance, monitoring the computer reports for abnormalities, maintaining work schedules of vehicle maintenance, contacting departments when necessary to schedule service, and receiving complaints regarding vehicles and determine need for service. We have determined that in order to accomplish both the attendant tasks and the service writer tasks, it is most appropriate to hire an Equipment Service Writer. The addition and use of an Equipment Service Writer will assist the Fleet Division to achieve its everyday goals while simultaneously allowing the Department to become more cost efficient by avoiding a duplication of hiring. Therefore, we are requesting to cancel the Fleet Service Center Attendant and add an Equipment Service Writer. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The Public Works Fleet Division will continue to operate without an employee in the appropriate classification. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
