HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09252012 - C.32RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE Appropriations and Revenue Adjustment No.5002 authorizing new revenue in the amount of $76,600 in the Sheriff's Office (0255) and appropriating it for the purchase of four Car Detector - LPR 4 Camera Systems and related equipment for the Sheriff's Technical Services Unit. FISCAL IMPACT: This action increases revenue and appropriations by $76,600, with no change in net county cost. The new revenue is from the Sheriff Narcotic Forfeiture Fund (0253). BACKGROUND: Asset Forfeiture Funds are equitably shared funds which can be used by law enforcement agencies for law enforcement purposes. This includes the costs associated with the purchase, lease, maintenance or operation of law enforcement equipment for use by law enforcement personnel that supports law enforcement activities. The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff will gather vehicle data via the use of the video devices and store the date in the existing ARIES database. ALPR data will be available to all ARIES agencies, which will allow for a collaborative approach to crime prevention and investigation. ALPR device data used by CCCSO Crime Analysts will improve overall crime analysis for CCCSO as well as fellow ARIES member agencies focusing on crime prevention and investigation. ALPR devices will allow patrol officers to identify vehicles of interest and focus their patrol activities on those vehicles, potentially reducing the number of vehicles used in violent crimes. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The new estimated revenue will not be appropriated for use by the Technical Services Unit. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
