Subject:Counties Care Friendly Food Fight
BACKGROUND:
In November and December of each of the past nine years, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano (Food Bank)
has sponsored its “Counties Care Friendly Food Fight” in Contra Costa and Solano Counties, to fundraise and solicit
food-item donations. This program has raised a grand total of $927,993.73 during those nine years.
The “Counties Care Friendly Food Fight” assists in meeting the social needs of County residents by supporting Food
Bank’s mission to provide food to low-income families and individuals living in the County. Indeed, the funds and
food items donated to the Food Bank during the “Counties Care Friendly Food Fight” assist the Food Bank to
provide, directly or through its partner agencies, food to an average of 89,000 Contra Costa County residents each
year.
The Food Bank welcomes County officials and employees to donate their time and talents to fundraise and solicit
donations during the “Counties Care Friendly Food Fight.” In order to formally declare the “Counties Care Friendly
Food Fight” to be a cooperative program of the County and Food Bank, and to formally authorize County officials
and employees to administer and supervise related fundraising and food-donation activities in County departments
and offices, the County Administrator recommends that the Board of Supervisors take the recommended actions
stated above, pursuant to Government Code section 26227.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The administration of the “Counties Care Friendly Food Fight” and the cooperation between the County and the Food
Bank of Contra Costa and Solano will not be clearly identified.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
