HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09112012 - C.91RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of County, Contract #26-713 with Pediatrix Medical Group of California, A Professional Corporation, in an amount not to exceed $120,000, to provide newborn hearing screening services in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, to revise the term from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2014, to August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2014 including modification to the County’s standard indemnification clause. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. BACKGROUND: The State of California mandates Hospitals to provide a hearing screen to all newborns. Since 2008, CCRMC has been part of the Universal Hearing Screen Program and all post-partum and nursery nurses have been trained to perform hearing screens. However this program has proven to be very time consuming for the nurses. On April 17, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-713 with Pediatrix Medical Group of California, A Professional Corporation, to provide trained and qualified personnel including not less than one (1) Site Coordinator and one (1) Hearing Screener who will be on-site at CCRMC seven days a week, 365 days a year to perform newborn hearing screening services, for the period from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2014. Subsequently, the parties engaged in lengthy negations and agreed to modify the indemnification provision, to provide mutual indemnification. This Board Order supersedes and replaces Board Order for item C.57 approved by the Board on April 17, 2012. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this contract is not approved, nurses will continue to provide mandated hearing screens to all newborns without the use of this Contractor and may not meet the minimum required screenings.
