APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or Mary Jane Robb, Sheriff's Chief of Management Services, or
designee, to apply for and accept a California Department of Boating and Waterways Abandoned Watercraft
Abatement Fund grant in an amount not to exceed $75,000 for the abatement of abandoned vessels on County
waterways for the period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$75,000; 90% State, 10% County match (Budgeted).
BACKGROUND:
The California Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is prepared to award an Abandoned Watercraft
Abatement Program grant to the Office of the Sheriff to assist the Sheriff's Marine Patrol with the removal of
abandoned vessels and water hazards. The funding provided by this grant will enable the Marine Patrol unit to
remove abandoned vessels and identified hazards to vessel navigation in a continued effort to protect life and property
on the waterways within Contra Costa County.
