Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
#26–725 with Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $419,756 to
provide professional consultation and technical support services to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center’s
(CCRMC), Chief Executive Officer, for the period from May 15, 2012 through May 14, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
he Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise I funds. No rate change.
BACKGROUND:
Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), founded in 1991, is an organization helping to lead the improvement of
heath care throughout the world. IHI works to accelerate improvement by building the will for change, cultivating
concepts for improving patient care, and helping health care systems put those ideas into action. IHI offers
comprehensive programs that aim to improve the lives of patients and the health of communities.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
On March 22, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved and on May 17, 2011, corrected the date for Contract #23
485 (which is now being provided under Contract #26-725) , with Institute for Healthcare Improvement to provide
professional consultation and technical assistance services to the CCRMC’s Chief Executive Officer, with regard to
improve care coordination systems, develop a strategic plan for integration of care delivery, optimize management
processes, involve contractor’s programming, and streamline improvement initiatives that build on existing capacity,
for the period from May 15, 2011 through May 14, 2012.
Approval of Contract #26-725, will Contractor to continue providing services through May 14, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the County will not be able to receive necessary technical support and consulting
services with regard to quality care improvement for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center’s integration systems.
