The “flattening” of the organization was accomplished in February 2012 and resulted in increased duties and responsibilities for the Undersheriff and the Assistant Sheriffs. The Human Resource Department has conducted a salary study from surrounding jurisdictions in the Bay Area and has determined that the Undersheriff – Exempt and the Assistant Sheriff- Exempt salaries and benefits should be reallocated and brought in alignment with the Bay Area median. There will be an 8.44% salary increase for the Assistant Sheriff – Exempt position and an increase of 8.54% for the Undersheriff – Exempt position to compensate for the increased duties and responsibilities and to alleviate the resulting salary compaction between the Captain, Assistant Sheriff, and the Undersheriff positions. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The department will be forced to abandon organizational efforts and return to an old organizational structure that will increase cost associated with filling vacancies. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact. CLERK'S ADDENDUM Speaker Rollie Katz, Public Employees' Union Local One. This matter is RELISTED to July 31, 2012.
