Introduce Ordinance No. 2012-07 to exempt from the Merit System the newly established classifications of Executive
Assistant I to the County Administrator-Exempt and Executive Assistant II to the County Administrator-Exempt, and
delete the Executive Assistant to the County Administrator from the list of excluded classes in the Office of the
County Administrator, waive reading, and fix July 31, 2012 for adoption.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The Executive Assistant to the County Administrator-Exempt is a single position classification. The department has
retitled the classification to Executive Assistant II to the County Administrator-Exempt and has added a lower level
classification entitled Executive Assistant I to the County Administrator-Exempt. The newly created classification
will be responsible for compiling the weekly Board of Supervisors Agenda.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The positions will not be able to perform confidential specialized duties for the County Administrator's Office.

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows (omitting the parenthetical
footnotes from the official text of the enacted or am ended provisions of the C ounty O rdinance C ode):
SE C TIO N I: Section 33-5.307 of the C ounty O rd inance C ode is am ended to exclude from the m erit
system the classifications of executive assistant I to the county administrator-exempt and executive
assistant II to the county adm inistrator-exem pt, and deleting executive assistant to the county
administrator, to read:
33-5.307 C ounty adm inistrator.
(a) The county administrator is excluded and is appointed by the board of supervisors.
(b) The follow ing positions in the county administrator’s office are excluded and are
appointed by the county adm inistra tor: chief assistant county adm inistra tor; assistant county
administrator; assistant county administrator-director of human resources; manager capital
facilities and debt managem ent-exempt; executive assistant I to the county adm inistrator-
exem pt; executive assistant II to the county adm inistrator-e xem pt; chief public
com m unications officer-e xem pt, director of the office of childre n services-exem pt and county
