FISCAL IMPACT: 100% Sheriff Plant Acquisition Fund (0111). BACKGROUND: The Sheriff's Office is embarking on a new endeavor to provide additional support at the Patrol Station House level in the form of Sheriff's Rangers. These employees will support Patrol Staff and the community by performing those functions that do not require the assignment of a Deputy Sheriff, as needed, to accomplish patrol duties effectively and economically. It was determined the vehicle best suited to this assignment would be a Ford Escape. The purchase will be funded by Kinder Morgan settlement money, which was awarded to the Sheriff's Office in 2007. The funds were deposited into the Sheriff Plant Acquisition Fund.
