Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to execute the following:
1) Change to Purchase Order #F38339 with Alere, Inc. to add $125,000 for a new total of $223,000, for reagents,
controls, test kits calibrators needed to perform Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) tests at Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from August 15, 2011 through August 14, 2012; and
2) Purchase Order with Alere, Inc., in the amount of $360,000, for reagents, controls, test kits calibrators needed to
perform Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) tests at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers, for the period from August 15, 2012 through August 14, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.

Subject:Approval of Purchase Order with Alere, Inc.
BACKGROUND:
These reagents and supplies are specific for the DXI and Hemopoint Hemoglobin meters. No others reagents and
supplies will work for these analyzers. The reagents are superior to products from other vendors. Alere, Inc. is a
participating vendor under our “Novation” group purchasing agreement, which ensures that we are receiving
preferred pricing on all purchases.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Purchase Order is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center's Laboratory will not be able to
perform BNP patient testing.
