Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase
Order with Universal Hospital Services, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $250,000, for rental of laser equipment,
including accessories and delivery, for surgeries at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers, for the period from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
Universal Hospital Services, Inc. provides the Visualization Technology System that is used in endoscopic sinus
procedures. This system uses a computer specialized software and electromagnetic tracking system to help the
surgeon perform procedures as precisely as possible. The system software builds a computerized model of the skull’s
anatomy with the CT-Scan taken prior to surgery. The tracking system links the surgical instruments that will be used
during the procedure to the computer. In urology, the urologist inserts a cystoscope or ureteroscope in the patient’s

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Purchase Order is not approved, laser surgeries would not be performed at Contra Costa Regional Medical
Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.
