Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
Amendment Agreement #72-020-2 with Pittsburg Unified School District (PUSD), a government agency, effective
September 1, 2012, to amend Interagency Agreement #72-020 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #72-020-1),
with no change in the original contract payment limit $100,000 and no change in the original term of September 1,
2010 through August 31, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This amendment is funded 100% by a Federal Department of Health and Human Services Teenage Pregnancy Project
(TPP) Grant. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
This Agreement meets the social needs of County’s population by implementing a TPP with the goal to reduce teen
birth rates among youth ages 15 - 19 years old who attend Riverside Continuation and Pittsburg High Schools. On
May 19, 2010, the Department and PUSD entered into “Memorandum of Understanding: Contra Costa Health

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Continuation and Pittsburg High Schools, and Hillview and Rancho Medanos Junior High Schools.
On March 15, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Interagency Agreement #72–020 to replace and supersede
the MOU allowing the Agency to implement the TPP within the PUSD while Amendment Agreement #72-020-1
allowed the PUSD to provide a substitute teacher, when necessary, to implement the program.
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #72-020-2 will allow the Contractor to provide additional TPP services
at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School, in addition to the other schools specified in the original agreement,
through August 31, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this amendment is not approved, Agency will not provide services to students at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior
High School.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This TPP program supports the following Board of Supervisors’ community outcomes: “Children Ready For and
Succeeding in School”; “Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Healthy Adulthood”; and “Communities that
are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families”. Expected program outcomes include a
decrease in the number of teenage pregnancies in East Contra Costa County.
