APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department Interim Director, or designee, to
execute a contract to accept funding from California Department of Education in an amount not to exceed $1,958,794
to support childcare and development programs (CalWORKS Stage 2) for the term July 1, 2012 through June 30,
2013.

BACKGROUND:
California Department of Education notified the Department on June 5, 2012 of the 2012/13 funding allocation for
alternative payment / CalWORKS Stage 2 childcare services. Approval of this revenue contract will provide support
funds for CalWORKS Stage 2 childcare services to program eligible children and families.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved, County will not have funds to operate CalWORKS Stage 2 childcare program.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa
County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
