HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06262012 - C.60RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Department Interim Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa, to execute an amended grant agreement with Senior Service America, Department of Labor, Title V, to accept increased funding in an amount up to $175,000 for a total not to exceed $802,700 and extend the grant period from June 30, 2012 to September 30, 2012 to provide services to support older workers in obtaining and maintaining employment. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $802,700 (includes up to $175,000 additional funding) from the Semior Service America, U. S. Department of Labor, Title V funding. 100% Federal. No additional County match required. CFDA #17.235 (All Districts) BACKGROUND: Senior Service America, U. S. Department of Labor, Title V funding supports older workers below the poverty line to obtain and maintain full time employment. S. Department of Labor, Title V Grant Funding BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) and upgrade existing skills. Placement in unsubsidized employment is the goal of the program resulting in increased opportunities for self sufficiency for the targeted senior population. Statistics indicate that employment keeps individuals connected to their community and is a major contributing factor in ensuring better overall health and self esteem. The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa continues to seek opportunities to expand services to this population. The extension of the Senior Service America grant will allow the services to continue. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without the extension of the grant funding, services provided with grant funding to support older worker will end June 30, 2012.
