Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
#26-975-9 with Mark Van Handel, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $1,140,000, to
provide neurology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period
from June 1, 2012 through May 31, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
On June 2, 2009, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-975-5 (as amended by Amendment Agreements
#26-975-6 through #26-975-8) with Mark Van Handel, M.D., to provide neurology services including clinic coverage,
consultation, training, on-call and medical and/or surgical procedures, for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical
Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from July 1, 2009 through May 31, 2012.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Approval of Contract #26-975-9 will allow Contractor to continue providing services through May 31, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical and
Contra Costa Health Centers would have longer wait times and possibly go untreated.
