Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase
Order with U.S. Foods Service, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $373,000, for the purchase of food and household
items for the clients at the County’s Discovery House substance abuse treatment facility, for the period from July 1,
2012 through June 30, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% of these funds are from existing criminal justice program funding Comprehensive Drug Court Implementation
(CDCI), Bay Area Services Network (BASN), and Assembly Bill (AB) 109, as well as the County's Net Negotiated
Amount (NNA) contract, along with eligible client/patients' Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
funds from the Employment and Human Services Department.
BACKGROUND:
The Discovery House is the County’s substance abuse residential treatment facility at which the capacity of 40 adult
males occupy the program, 365 days a year. It is important that their dietary needs be met with three nutritious meals
per day, per man, while they are in treatment.
