Subject:Amendment Agreement #26-398-15 with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
BACKGROUND:
For many years, the County and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have maintained a mutual sharing agreement,
which has made available to the County specialized medical services not otherwise available due to lack of resources,
equipment, and personnel. These services included specialized laboratory testing, radiology services, nuclear
medicine studies, CT scans, MRI's, dermatology, gastroenterology, urology, audiology and speech, and
ophthalmology services.
On November 18, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Sharing Agreement #26-398-10 (as amended by
Amendment Agreements #26-398-11 through #26-398-14), with VACNHCS to provide specialized Dermatology
services to County's patients referred for treatment by Contra Costa Regional Medical Center physicians through
March 31, 2012, including agreeing to indemnify and hold the Contractor harmless or any claims arising out of the
performance of this Contract.
Approval of Amendment Agreement #26-398-15, will allow Contractor to continue to provide specialized
Dermatology services to County's patients referred for treatment by Contra Costa Regional Medical Center
physicians through March 31, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, County referred patients will not receive specialized Dermatology services at
VANCHCS.
