APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute a purchase order with MedTel Services
LLC, on behalf of the Chief Information Officer, in an amount not to exceed $470,000, for various
telecommunications parts necessary to maintain the integrity of the County's telephone system. (100% Department
User fees)
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of $470,000 (100% Department User fees) is budgeted under Org 4280 FY 2011/2012 and charged back to
user departments through the DOIT billing process.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Information Technology Telecommunication Department is in the process of replacing many of
the aging digital PRI Interface Modules that are installed in many of the County Wide Telephone Systems (PBXes).
In addition, Telecom is in the process of upgrading to Digital ATT Primary Rate Interface (PRI) voice

line service. This will provide a more reliable phone service necessary for compatibility with e911 services.
In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No 611.0, County Departments are required to get Board approval for
single item purchases over $100,000. The County Administrator’s Office has reviewed this request and recommends
approval.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Department of Information Technology will not be able to perform the required equipment upgrade necessary for
the deployment of e911 Services.
