APPROVE Appropriation and Revenue Adjustment No. 5062 authorizing new revenue in the amount of $83,967
from accumulated depreciation and appropriating to purchase one replacement prisoner transport bus for the Office of
the Sheriff-Coroner.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action provides appropriations from depreciation for the replacement of one vehicle. Equipment #6608 will be
replaced with one Motor Coach Industries Prisoner Transport Bus for an estimated cost of $560,227. This purchase
will be funded with accumulated depreciation ($83,967) and funds ($476,260) from the Office of the Sheriff-Coroner
FY2011/12 budget.
BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff-Coroner is turning in one prisoner transport bus and purchasing one replacement bus. The
current equipment is a Thomas Built bus. Thomas is known for producing transportation buses for school children.
The replacement equipment will be a Motor Coach Industries (MCI) inmate transportation motor coach. The MCI
bus is the industry standard used

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
by California Department of Corrections and Los Angeles County Sheriff. The replacement bus is built with a
lifespan of 600,000 miles.
The purchase order with Motor Coach Industries in the amount of $560,250 was approved at the Board of
Supervisors' Meeting on February 28, 2012 (item C.47).
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, the Sheriff-Coroner office will not be able to use the accumulated depreciation for
equipment #6608 that is being replaced toward the purchase cost of its replacement equipment.
