SUBJECT: Recognition of' 40 years of Service for
Reverend Louis Dabovich
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
Resolution 86/86
,WHEREAS Reverend Louis Dabovich arrived in San Francisco ,
California in October, 1948 and became a citizen .of the
United States of America on November 11 , 1954 ; and
WHEREAS he served as Associate Pastor of the Church of the
Nativity in San Francisco from 1948 to 1957 ; of St . Leander ' s
Church in San Leandro from 1957 to 1962 ; of -St . Bede ' s Church
in Hayward from 1962 to 1963 ; of Sacred Heart Church in Oakland
from 1963 to 1965 ; and
WHEREAS Reverend: Dabovich was named Founding Pastor of the
Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg in 1965 . The Parish
first gathered in a converted furniture store in- the-Shopping
Heights Center . On August 17 , 1969 ground was broken for a
church and rectory on the former U. S . Army site , Camp Stoneman, :
and these buildings were completed and dedicated on September 6 ,
1970 by- Bishop.: Floyd L . Begin, D.D. On April 12 , 1980 , Bishop
John S . Cummins , D.D. dedicated the Good Shepherd Parish Hall ; and
WHEREAS ,he served as a Judge on the Oakland . Diocesan Marriage
Tribunal ; as a ; Senator on the Oakland Diocesan Priests ' Senate ;
as Moderator of the East Contra Costa Deanery of the National
Council of . Catholic Women; as a Board Member of the Catholic
Voice ; as. a Board Member of the Stoneman Village Senior and
Handicapped Residential Community in Pittsburg, California ; and
WHEREAS he received the Benemerenti Medal from Pope John Paul II
on December 8, 1985 ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board
of Supervisors unanimously joins with the Parish of the Good
Shepherd of Pittsburg, California, in recognizing the 40 years
of meritorious service that Reverend Dabovich has given as a
Priest and the years of leadership he has given to his Pittsburg
Parish and the 'Community as a whole .

REVEREND LOUIS DABOVICH
WHEREAS, Reverend Louis Dabovich arrived in San Francisco, California,
