2'1:e Y-ticatrc c All PorSibiliticz is dedicated to
providing professional quality theatre to large
diverse ( age and cultural background ) audiences .
We seek to produce performance works in music,
theatre , and dance which address and inspire the
highest ideals and potentials . Our goal is to
present idealistic visions as realizable possi-
bilities .
A Note from the Director
L Welcome to a Vision . A Vision of Possibilty
Peace Child is a fantasy - a fantasy because it deals with some-
thing other than what we call reality , but like the true heart
of fantasy , it points to something that could exist .
Ke . live in a time when war , greed and mistrust are accepted as a
necessary part of our experience . The future world imagined in
the play is one where we have learned to live together in a peace-
ful co-existence , to share a common home , the only one we have .
It is a world not so far removed from our own , just out of grasp ,
y& attainable.
The vision of Fcace Cnild is simple - we can live in Peace . It
begins from the children ' s innocent promise that. "if we can be
friends , then so can our leaders" and it is realized by their
willingness to see their vision through . Most of us share a
vision of a world at peace. It can be realized when we , like
the children , take the responsibility to live. our vision in our
homes , at work , with our families and in all our relationships .
1
14ore than anything, Peace Cr,itd is a gift - an offering espec-
ially to the children of today . It is an antidote to fear and
a welcoming into responsibility - for the world of the future
if it is to be , must be given into the hands of the children
and they in turn must take the responsibility- to bring it about .
We offer it now to children of all ages - young and old alike -
for anyone of you could be the Peace Child - you , you , or yes ,
even you .
Sincerely ,
Dhara j MAxf ield

What will our world be like fifty years from now?
What is the solution to the arms race? Is it solvable?
Can nations with fundamentally opposed political phil-
osophies ever be genuinely at peace? What can ordinary
people do that would make any difference?
"Peace. ChiZd" presents an opportunity for adults
and children to address such questions .
N-1
A STORY OF THE FUTURE CREATED BY CHILDREN
The play is set in the year 2025 in a small town .
It is "Peace Day " - the universal holiday which com-
memorates the day , back in the nineteen eighties , when
the nations of the world declared Peace . As part of
t the holiday festivities , the children of the town en-
act the 'play called "Peace .Child" which tells how
Peace Day came about back in the 1980 ' s . An American
boy and a Russian girl became friends and shared a
dream of peace . They embarked on a long adventure
which brought them face to face with their leaders .
Finally they brought together the other children of the
world and persuaded their leaders to overcome their
fear and distrust of each other and break the vicious
circle of the arms race .
Sixteen powerful songs contribute great energy
and emotion to the story . The overall result is a
deeply moving , empowering celebration of friendship -
a glimpse of the possibilities for what the peoples
of the world could accomplish in partnership .
"Peace Child - a Children ' s Musical Celebration
for Peace" came. to life in London ' s Royal Albert Hall
in October 1981 with a cast of more than 300 young
people . It was the brainchild of a United Nations
group who wished to proclaim a positive message for
peace . "Peace Child" premiered . in America in December
1982 at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC . Since the
script and score were made generally available in mid-
1983, "Peace Child" has been performed by hundreds of
schools , churches , peace coalitions , and community
theatres throughout the United States . It .has also been
performed at conferences of leading educators and sec-
urity specialists .
