HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05152012 - C.52RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to amend Purchase Order
with Becton Dickinson and Company, a Corporation, to increase the amount from $1,250,000 to a new total of
$1,500,000, for reagents necessary to conduct testing for sexually transmitted diseases, with no change in the original
term from February 1, 2008 through June 30, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. Increase in the Purchase Order amount will be offset by reimbursement for testing performed by outside
agencies, MediCal and MediCare eligible patients.
BACKGROUND:
Becton Dickinson is the sole source provider of the Probe Tec System and the MGIT system which are used to
conduct the testing. We entered into the existing five (5) year Purchase Order with this company of the period
February 1, 2008 through June 30, 2013. The specific systems are used as they are highly sensitive and specific for
the organism being tested. The identified testing Systems take significantly less time to isolate the organisms than
with other testing systems allowing for a quicker diagnosis and response. Additionally the Probe Tec System can
detect 96 specimens at one time while other products could only detect 24 at one time.
