HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05152012 - C.34RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $18,000 from Target Corporation for Early Childhood Reading programs for the period June 1, 2012 through December 31, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $18,000, 100% Target Corporation Early Childhood Reading grant funds. No library fund match. BACKGROUND: Target Corporation awards annual grants to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations to support early childhood reading. Children prepare to read long before they enter school, and young children need a variety of skills to become readers and achieve success in school. By providing books, equipment and a welcoming, baby and toddler-friendly environment with a variety of educational experiences, the library can assist parents in helping their children develop early literacy skills.
