HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05152012 - C.32RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Probation Officer, or designee, to apply for and accept funding under the Smart Probation: Reducing Prison Populations, Saving Money, and Creating Safer Communities grant from the U. S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in an amount not to exceed $500,000 to implement evidence-based practices that target high-risk probationers by increasing training and facilitation of cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing protocols, for the two-year period of September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: $500,000 for a two-year period; no County match requirement. (CFDA #16.812) BACKGROUND: The goal of this application is to receive funds to develop more effective evidenced-based probation programs that address offender’s needs and reduce recidivism. Kader, County Probation Officer Date:May 15, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:Smart Probation FY 2012 Competitive Grant BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) received will increase capacity within the Probation Department to implement evidence-based practices that target high-risk probationers by increasing training and facilitation of cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing protocols. Interventions will target high-risk offenders identified using the Correctional Assessment and Intervention System (CAIS) assessment tool. Additionally, this grant will require significant data collection and evaluation to validate and improve delivery of probation services and improve customer service.
