HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05082012 - SD.1 SD.1 Board of Supervisors Contra Costa County Date: May 8 2012 Public Comment Camilla Rand, Community Services, thanked the Board for recognizing Community Action Month and noted that the agency has offered programs to low-income individuals for 45 years, with a long record of efficient use of grant funds. Accompanying Camilla was Joanne Dinardo and Rochelle, a consumer; Tina Neuhausell, founding director of Sustainable Contra Costa, challenges Contra Costans to take part in the Contra Costa 350 Home & Garden Challenge (sustainablecoco.org), and recounted the many benefits to our children and community in growing our own food. Ms Neuhausell brought the Supervisors a tomato plant and invited them to participate; Jennifer Rader, thanked the Board for the County support of the James Morehouse project at El Cerrito High School; Elizabeth Watts, requested the Board seek out alternative possibilities for savings, as the proposed 2.75% base pay reduction for PEU Local One employees is especially difficult for employees who have not had a raise since 2008 and many are part-time; Ralph Hoffmann, resident of Walnut Creek, spoke in opposition to AB 1569 which would extend AB 1421; Monica Mueller, Physical Therapist with Contra Costa County Health Services, spoke on the hardships imposed on employees by the proposed pay cuts; Mike Kellogg, resident of Martinez, spoke on salary cut proposed in negotiations; Lee Lawrence, President of League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley, spoke on the Redevelopment Funding and possible use for low income housing, and updated the Board on activities undertaken by the League over the year; Rollie Katz, PEU Local One, deferred compensation for PI employee's. Rick Mata and Pete Ellis of PEU Local One were unable to remain to speak, but left written comments for the Board, enquiring about whether the deferred compensation benefit will be available to Permanent-Intermittent employees.
