HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04172012 - C.46RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in
the amount of $5,000 from East Bay Community Foundation, administered by the Rodeo
Municipal Advisory Council, for Rodeo Library services, pursuant to the Rodeo Good
Neighbor Agreement for the period July 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$5,000 revenue. 100% East Bay Community Foundation; No Library Fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The County currently funds 18 hours of library service at the Rodeo Library. The $5,000
received from Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council will fund four additional hours of library
service from July 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012, which allows the library to open two
evenings and one extra hour on Saturdays for a total of four additional open hours per week.
The extended hours offer Rodeo residents more opportunities to make use of the educational
and recreational resources available in the library.

Subject:Apply for and Accept East Bay Community Foundation Grant Funds Administered by the Rodeo Municipal
Advisory Council in the Amount of $5,000
If the funds are not received then the Rodeo Library will be open 18 hours per week instead
of 22 hours per week.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Extending hours at the Rodeo Library will meet all five community outcomes established in
the Children’s Report Card. Research shows that early and positive experiences with books
set the stage for a child’s success in learning to read. Additionally, literacy skills are a
strong predictor of health and employment status. Extending hours at the Rodeo Library
will draw more families to the library and encourage regular exposure to reading and books,
thus improving the quality of life for children and families in Rodeo.
