Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the
County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-338-14 with American Red Cross Blood
Services, a Non-Profit Corporation, effective January 1, 2012, to increase the total payment
limit by $450,000 from $900,000 to a new total payment limit of $1,350,000, with no
change in the original term of January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This amendment is 100% funded by Enterprise I Funds. Cost to the County depends upon
utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services. (rate
increase included)
BACKGROUND:
On March 3, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved and on April 27, 2010, corrected
Contract #26-338-13 with American Red Cross Blood Services, for the period from January
1, 2010 through December 31, 2012, to provide total blood and blood component products
and associated services as needed for patients at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-338-14 will allow Contractor to provide
additional blood testing/screening services, and to make technical adjustments to the fee
schedule, with no change in the term through December 31, 2012.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the County will not be able to continue to utilize
Contractor’s services to provide blood services and products to the needs of Contra Costa
County Medical Center.
