Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to
execute the following:
1. Change to Purchase Order with Synthes USA Sales, LLC to add $99,000 to a new total of
$499,000, for equipment and implants used in orthopedic surgery at Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from April 1, 2010 through
March 31, 2012.
2. Purchase Order with Synthes USA Sales, LLC, in amount not to exceed $600,000, for
equipment and implants used in orthopedic surgery at Contra Costa Regional Medical
Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from April 1, 2012 through March
31, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.

Subject:Approval of Blanket Purchase Order for Synthes USA Sales, LLC
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
is provides all the necessary hardware and biomaterial needs to address orthopedic trauma
and reconstruction procedures at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa
Health Centers. Synthes USA Sales, LLC manufactures various plates and screws use in
bone fractures, intramedullary nails used in “IM Rodding” for long bone fractures and
synthetic and natural bone graft substitutes (biomaterials). Synthes USA Sales, LLC has
been selected because of standardization.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Purchase is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa
Health Centers would not have necessary hardware and biomaterials needed to address
orthopedic trauma and reconstruction procedures,
