are handled properly and we do not lose any to poor handling of specimens.

The basic function of this position is to pick up, transport, and deliver biologic
specimens to the Public Health Laboratory for testing.
What is the basic purpose or function of this position ?
The number of pick up sites and the number of specimens have increased over the past
2 years. Also the complexity of the duties has increased.
What charges have occurrea in the work of this position ?
This job is not reviewed by a supervisor routinely. The review is for problems which arise
at the pick up sites with specimen handling from site to lab.
What ports of this job do you check or review closely and why ?

There is a small amount of typing involved with this job. Thisincludes typing memos to
pick up sites and clinicians regarding specimen handling.

4 days per week Driver/Courier/Clerk
8 hours per day This job is mostly a Courier position., it consists of a daily route of 15
sites, they are Private Physcians or Clinics that do screenings for STD's
and other clinical cultures. Each site has supplies that must be delivered,
�p incubators that need monitoring, and each will have cold specimens, and
specimens which must be kept warm and have CO2. The run is 158 miles
and each site takes from 10 minutes to 20 minutes to unload supplies, retrieve
specimens from refrigerator, and incubator place in proper containers, then
place them in the Van in cold ice chest or warm ice chest as the case may
be.
Listed are specimens which need to be handled on courier run may contain
organisms of or antibodies to:
1. Gonorrhea
2. Syphilis
3• Chlamydia
4. Herpes
5• HTLV III
6. Trichomonas
7. Gardnerella
8. Salmonella/ Shigella
9• Giardia
10. Tuberculosis
11. Hepatitis
20"(p Typing up memos for sites including any scheduling changes Holiday schedules.
Filing reports, CMR reports, Lab slip results. Inventory, will need to keep
inventory list on sites and supplies they may need. Person should be able
to drive in congested traffic, and be familar with streets and Highways in
Contra Costa County. Courier will need to interact with Public Health Lab
staff.
