Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to
execute, a blanket Purchase Order with Boston Scientific Corporation, in the amount of
$375,000, for urology, pelvic floor reconstruction and gastroenterology endoscopy supplies
and implants for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers,
for the period from February 1, 2012 through January 31, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
The Surgery Unit purchases Boston Scientific Corporation supplies and implants to be used
in the urological, gastroenterology procedures to treat various diseases and provide accurate
histologic diagnosis and pelvic floor reconstruction. The Gastroenterology Unit uses Boston
Scientific Corporation products to treat a variety of digestive diseases. The products help
perform biopsies, retrieve gallstones and stop internal bleeding due cancer and ulcers. The
Urology Unit use Boston Scientific Corporation products to diagnose urinary stones, stress
urinary incontinence and a host of other diseases. Boston Scientific Corporation has

Scientific Corporation offers minimally-invasive treatment alternatives to surgery.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this purchase is not approved, various minimally-invasive procedures, like retrieving
gallstones and stopping internal bleeding, would not be performed at Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.
