HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03132012 - C.45RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute, a Purchase Order with Alcon Laboratories, Inc, in the amount of $350,000, for supplies, cataract lens implants and equipment used in eye surgeries at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: 100% Enterprise Fund I. BACKGROUND: Alcon Laboratories, Inc manufactures the equipment used for cataract surgeries in the operating room. The Infiniti Phacoemulsifier uses ultrasonic waves to break up the cataract and then aspirates the material into a suction canister. Alcon Laboratories, Inc provides the proprietary hand pieces, tubing, and blades associated with cataract procedures, as well as the lenses that are inserted into the eye after a cataract is removed. Alcon Laboratories, Inc is used because the consumables are proprietary and cannot be purchased through another vendor.
