HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03132012 - C.41RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute Amendment No. 2 to an existing On-Call Geotechnical Engineering Consulting Services Agreement with ENGEO, Incorporated, effective March 15, 2012 to increase the payment limit by $100,000 to a new payment limit of $250,000, in order to complete on-call geotechnical engineering services on current or future projects. (Various Funds) (All Districts) Project No.: Various FISCAL IMPACT: This consulting services agreement amendment allows for an additional $100,000 above the previously approved payment limit of $150,000. The increase in payment will be funded by developer fees, Road, Flood Control, and/or Airport funds. BACKGROUND: The Public Works Department is involved in various projects in the County which require geotechnical engineering consulting services for road, flood control, and airport projects. After a solicitation process in 2009, this firm and two other firms were selected to provide geotechnical engineering services on an “on-call” basis. Bueren, Public Works Director/Chief Engineer Date:March 13, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Consulting Services Agreement Amendment No. 2 with ENGEO, Incorporated BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) the consultant has augmented Public Works staff with geotechnical engineering expertise on an as-needed basis. They have been and will be used as an extension of County Public Works staff during busy times when extra help is needed or when in-house expertise is not available. On December 15, 2009, the consulting services agreement was approved by the Board of Supervisors. On December 13, 2011, Amendment No. 1 was approved to extend the consulting services agreement for an additional year to continue providing geotechnical engineering consulting services to the County on on-call basis through December 15, 2012. Since Amendment No.1 was approved, two projects in the Iron Horse Corridor started to move forward that require additional geotechnical expertise on an “on-call” basis. Approval of this Consulting Services Agreement Amendment No.2 will allow the consultant to continue providing geotechnical engineering consulting services to the County for current and future contracts. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without approval from the Board of Supervisors, there will be possible delays in completing projects requiring geotechnical engineering services. Executing this amendment will facilitate the process of design and construction for various Public Works projects requiring a geotechnical engineering expertise.
