HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03132012 - FPD C.01RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, to apply for and accept a 2012 California Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant in an amount not to exceed $20,000 to provide wildland fire protective clothing and training for the Briones Reserve Program. FISCAL IMPACT: $20,000, 50% State (CAL FIRE); 50% District match required. Funds are appropriated for the purchase of wildland fire protective clothing in the fiscal year 2012-13 District operating budget. This grant, if awarded, will expand what the Distict can do with those limited funds. BACKGROUND: The Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Program, formerly known as the Rural Community Fire Protection (RCFP) Program, provides federal financial, technical, and other assistance to state foresters and other appropriate officials to organize, train and equip fire departments in rural areas and rural communities to suppress fires. Louder, Chief, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Date:March 13, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:2012 California Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) VFA Program objectives include 1) providing financial, technical, and related assistance to state foresters to organize, train, and equip local firefighting forces for fire protection in rural areas and communities of 10,000 persons or less; 2) determining benefits and costs of fire protection of rural lands and evaluating the distribution of these costs and benefits among all approproate entities; and 3) developing policy and monitoring states' administration of equipment and supplies purchased in whole or in part with VFA Program funds. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The District will lose the opportunity to apply for this grant. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: NA
