Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf
of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #23-457-4 with the Health Care Interpreter
Network, a non-profit corporation, effective January 1, 2012, to amend Contract #23-457-3
to modify the Service Plan of the Contract to include an additional level of video
conferencing services, with no change in the original payment limit of $173,086 and no
change in the original term of July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded by 100% by Enterprise Fund I. Monthly rate has increased due to
additional services.
BACKGROUND:
On July 12, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #23-457-3 with Health Care
Interpreter Network, to provide technical assistance to Contra Costa Regional Medical
Center and Contra Costa Health Centers with regard to the Healthcare Interpreter Network
System including, but not limited to, coordinating access to video conferencing software
and devices, providing

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
qualified interpreters in a wide range of languages and providing liaison services with
regard to linking other counties to shared video conferencing interpretation services, for the
period from June 30, 2012, including mutual indemnification to hold harmless both parties
for any claims arising out of the performance of this Contract.
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #23-457-4 will allow the Contractor to
provide an additional level of video conferencing services to include maintaining fiber optic
telephone lines for transmission, through June 30, 2012.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this amendment is not approved, County would not have appropriate number for phone
lines to provide video conferencing services due to an increased demand for these services.
