APPROVE and ADOPT Candidate Statement Regulations and Estimated Costs, requiring
candidates to pay for optional statements for the 6/05/12 Primary and 11/06/12 General
Elections, as recommended by the Clerk-Recorder.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no direct cost to the County.
BACKGROUND:
Elections Code 13307 provides that before the nomination period opens, the local agency
shall determine whether a charge shall be levied against the candidate for the candidate's
statement sent to each voter; and that decision shall not be revoked or modified after the
seventh day prior to the opening of the nomination period; and that a written statement of
the regulations with respect to charges, shall be provided to each candidate. Elections Code
13307 (f) provides that the Board of Supervisors shall be deemed the governing body of
Judicial Elections.
