Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to accept, on behalf of
the County, Grant Award #28-825-1 (MRC 12 1969) from the National Association of
County and City Health Official (NACCHO), to pay the County an amount not to exceed
$5,000, for County’s Emergency Medical Services Capacity Building Grant Project, for the
period from December 22, 2011 through July 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of this Grant Award will result in an amount of $5,000 from National
Association of County and City Health Official (NACCHO) for or the County’s Emergency
Medical Services Capacity Building Grant Project. No County funds are required.
BACKGROUND:
Contra Costa Medical Reserve Corps (CCMRC) is housed under Contra Costa County
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) which is part of Contra Costa County Health Services
Department (HSD). CCMRC is part of the County's emergency planning and response
system to address the need

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
for additional medical professionals to respond to a medical surge event or an event such as
those requiring the mass distribution of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the CCMRC
participates in trainings, health fairs, flu clinics, first aid, and community service. The
NACCHO award will provide funding to allow members of the CCMRC to attend the
western summit and the integrated medical, public health, preparedness and response
training summit, including acquiring a projector for the team, as well as community
information sharing and training tools.
Approval of the Grant Award #28-825-1 will provide continuous support to County’s
Emergency Medical Services Capacity Building Grant Project to enhance the Contra Costa
Medical Reserve Corps unit through July 31, 2012.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Agreement is not approved, the County’s Emergency Medical Services will not
receive funding to support its Capacity Building Grant Project to enhance the Medical
Reserve Corps units.
