APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept an Library
Services and Technology Act grant in the amount of $5,000 from the California State
Library to provide funds to the Concord Library to help veterans adjust to civilian life by
connecting them to the community through book discussion groups, recording their stories
for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project, and providing a workshop on how to
access veteran benefits for the period January 1, 2012 through September 30, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
Veterans Connect will help returned veterans readjust to civilian life by providing them a
series of programs and services to be held at the Concord Library that will leave them better
connected to the community and fellow veterans. To accomplish this, the library will
provide these veterans with book discussion groups that will connect them to the community
through story. The library will also collect veteran personal histories for the Library of
Congress Veterans

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the grant funds are not approved then the library will not be able to hold the Veterans
Connect programs.
