APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee,
to apply for and accept California Department of Social Services in the amount not to
exceed $700,000 for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed)
program for the period January 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
County to receive up to $700,000, 100% State, California Department of Social Services
grant. (No County match)
BACKGROUND:
The California Department of Social Services is soliciting applications for the availability of
funds for Innovative Projects in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education
(SNAP-Ed) program to be administered by County Welfare Departments. The purpose of
the project is to provide County Welfare Departments the opportunity and funding to
partner with other local organizations to provide nutrition education services to CalFresh
participants.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Without funding, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education program will
not be designed and implemented in Contra Costa County.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The funding will support one of the community outcomes established in the Children's
Report Card: "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing" by providing education to
encourage individuals and families to make informed, healthy and nutritional food choices
thereby improving community health and individual lifestyles.
