Piepho, District III Supervisor Date:January 10, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:APPOINTMENT TO THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL Plan that guides BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) the use of Community Services Block Grant Funds. It is made up of 15 members - five from the low-income community, five from private sector community organizations and business people, and the five members of the Board of Supervisors who can either serve on the Council or choose to appoint designees on their behalf. The members of the EOC review, study and hear presentations from members of the community to assist them in studying the root causes of poverty in the county. They use this information to develop funding strategies to address these root causes. One of their primary strategies is to seek out partnerships with other community organizations that are also pursuing long-range strategies for low-income people. This seat was vacated on September 27, 2011. Applications were accepted and reviewed by the District III office and the recommendation to appoint the above individual was then determined. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The seat will remain vacant. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
