ACCEPT oral report to provide an overview of the service contract the District has with the
City of Pinole for the Tara Hills, Bayview, and Montara Bay communities and the
Alhambra Valley corridor. (Daryl Louder, Fire Chief)
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. This report is for informational purposes only.
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has contracted with the City of Pinole
since 1962 to provide fire service to the unincorporated areas of Tara Hills, Bayview,
Montara Bay and the Alhambra Valley corridor (formerly the Pinole Fire District). The
fiscal portions of the contract were renegotiated in 1980 and 1999-2000. The last payment
to Pinole for FY-2009/2010 was $334,000. In May of 2011, the District started to
renegotiate this contact to reduce costs. The District has proposed transitioning to a per-call
fee instead of a flat fee and eliminating an automatic 4% escalator for each year.
