Community Development
year 2008-2009.
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
There is continuing concern about the lack of emergency shelter services for homeless
single adults and families.
On April 5, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved the submittal of Application Board
Order #28-587-10 with the State of California Department of Housing and Community
Development for Application EHAP 16 funding essential for Contra Costa maintaining our
future bed capacity. The County Homeless Program is committed to working with
community agencies, such as Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP) to achieve this
goal.
Approval of this standard agreement #28-587-11 will support emergency shelter for
families operated by grip and shelter beds for single adults operated by the county homeless
program, including agreeing to indemnify and hold harmless the state for claims arising out
of the county’s performance under the contract.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the County Shelters may lose critical funding that supports
the shelter program and may have to run at reduced capacity. This would leave more
homeless individuals on the streets.
