FISCAL IMPACT: None BACKGROUND: Ms. Polk was originally appointed to the Economic Opportunity Council on April 15, 2008. She is recommended for reappointed to the Low-Income Seat #5 on the Economic Opportunity Council with a term of July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013. Ms. Polk's address is: , Pittsburg, CA 94565. The Economic Opportunity Council was established on January 16, 1965. It is the federally designated Community Action Program tri-partite oversight council in Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) It is made up of 15 members - five from the low-income community, five from private sector community organizations and business people, and the five members of the Board of Supervisors who can either serve on the Council or choose to appoint designees on their behalf. The members of the EOC review, study and hear presentations from members of the community to assist them in studying the root causes of poverty in the county. They use this information to develop funding strategies to address these root causes. One of their primary strategies is to seek out partnerships with other community organizations that are also pursuing long-range strategies for low-income people. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The seat will remain empty and the Economic Opportunity Council will be hindered in its ability to conduct routine business. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None
