1. APPROVE Appropriation and Revenue Adjustment No. 5011 authorizing additional
revenue in the amount of $346,677 from accumulated depreciation, estimated salvage, and
County signal maintenance and appropriate it for two replacement bucket trucks for Traffic
Signal Shop within the Facilities Maintenance Division of the General Services Department.
2. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the General Services
Department, to execute a purchase order with Altec Industries, Inc. in the amount of
$346,677 for two replacement bucket trucks for the General Services Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Facilities Maintenance Division of the General Services Department, is replacing two
bucket trucks for the Signal Shop for an estimated total of $346,677. The purchase will be
funded with accumulated depreciation of $258,529, estimated salvage of $6,000, and
$82,148 from revenue for County signal maintenance.
The replacement is funded through the General Fund (100300).

Subject:APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT AND REQUEST TO PURCHASE REPLACEMENT TRAFFIC
SIGNAL EQUIPMENT FOR FACILITIES MAINTENANCE DIV, GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
BACKGROUND:
The Traffic Signal Shop is responsible for maintaining over 670 signal intersections
throughout Contra Costa County and contracts its services to various Cities. The
equipment to be replaced, equipment number 6813 and 6823, are well above their
mileage life and have become expensive to maintain due to increasing repair needs.
Equipment 6813 is a 1996 Ford F-450 with 151,070 miles. Equipment 6823 is a 2001
International 4700 with 175,018 miles.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Without replacement, the Traffic Signal Shop will be unable to provide services to its
contract cities and result in utilizing rental equipment to perform its duties. This will
result in loss of productivity and longer response times for service.
