Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute on behalf of
the County, Contract #26-543-3 with Northern California Hematology Oncology
Consultants, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $150,000, to provide
professional Hematology/Oncology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and
Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from September 1, 2011 through August 31,
2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. No rate increases.
BACKGROUND:
For a number of years the County has contracted with medical, dental and mental health
specialists to provide specialized professional services that are not otherwise available in its
Hospital and Health Centers.
On October 7, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-543-1 (as amended
by Amendment Agreement #26-543-2) with Northern California Hematology Oncology

professional hematology/oncology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and
Contra Costa Health Centers including, clinic coverage, consultation, surgical and/or
medical procedures and on-call coverage services, for the period from September 1, 2008
through August 31, 2011.
Approval of Contract #26-543-3 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide
hematology/oncology services, through August 31, 2014.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa
Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers would experience much longer
waits for services and may possibly go untreated.
